*holds up a VOTE FIRE sign*

  2. #38
Why are multiple people voting for other people for like a dozen and a half votes? If you're not the pyro, this will result in you losing. Stop doing this.

Please do not spend more votes on other people than votes you are contributing to the fire; or we're royally f*cked.

And no I'm not the pyromaniac again doing the same strategy as season 1: this is a trainwreck that I'd love to see come to a stop.

The deadline has passed! Let's see how many ballots were cast.

      Spoiler:
    Ballots Used: 57
    Ballots Saved: 7
    Discarded Ballots: 10

57 ballots have been cast once again this round. It will take at least 29 votes against the fire to suppress it this round.

    FIRE SUPPRESSION HAS FAILED.

An impressive effort compared to previous rounds, but it still wasn't enough.

The fire increases to Level 5.

Based on the remaining votes, the player with the most votes will be eliminated. That player is...

As this was a unanimous vote, no ballots are redistributed.

OOC: Sorry to see you go, Vashhee! I really appreciated your efforts to try and stop the momentum of this trainwreck, but in the face of THIRTY-ONE VOTES it was basically impossible. Thanks so much for your support of the series, I hope you still had fun!

With the game's ballot economy suddenly crashing due to a unanimous vote, and the fire at Level 5, this is now your last chance to save yourselves from the fire.

It's time to vote. You will receive individualized updates with the current number of ballots you have.

    Rules

You are required to cast a minimum of 3 Ballots each round. For these ballots, you have two options:

    • [1] Fire Suppression: Cast it against the fire to benefit the fire suppression effort.
    • [2] Player Suppression: Cast it against a player other than yourself.

For your excess ballots (past the third), you have three options:

    • [1] Save It: Save it for a future round.
    • [2] Fire Suppression: Cast it against the fire to benefit the fire suppression effort.
    • [3] Player Suppression: Cast it against a player other than yourself.

Each player must respond within the allotted time (24 hours, with up to a 24-hour extension available maximum). If I receive all decisions before 24 hours have elapsed, I may post results early. If you specifically want me to wait the full 24 hour hours because you are considering changing your decision, indicate that in your message and I will wait until the full deadline. You can also request an extension of up to 24 hours.

If you fail to vote by the deadline, your ballots will be discarded.

Any ballots used improperly (to self-vote or vote for something other than the fire or another player remaining in the game) will be discarded.

    Possible Vote Outcomes

    • Unanimous Fire Suppression: A vote in which all ballots are cast again the fire will result in a highly successful fire suppression effort. The fire will decrease by one level, unless it is already at the minimum. No elimination will occur during this round.
    • Majority Fire Suppression: If at least fifty percent of ballots cast are against the fire, the fire will remain at its current level. The player with the most votes will be eliminated. Surviving players will recover ballots cast against them for use in future rounds.
    • Failed Fire Suppression: If fewer than fifty percent of ballots are cast against the fire, the fire will increase by one level. Since we are currently at Level 5, failed fire suppression will cause a game over.
    • No Fire Suppression: The doomsday scenario. If a vote takes place where no votes are cast against the fire, the fire will immediately burn down the tower and end the game. This includes the scenario where no votes are cast at all.

Let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise... well, enjoy your stay in this warm, cozy tower.

All the votes are in! Let's see how many were cast. Remember, if zero ballots were cast, the game will end instantly.

      Spoiler:
    Ballots Used: 18
    Ballots Saved: 6
    Discarded Ballots: 0

18 ballots have been cast this round. It will take at least 9 votes against the fire to suppress it this round.

How many ballots were cast against the fire?

      Spoiler:
    GAME OVER.
    2 out of 18
    11.11%

The fire has engulfed the tower.

    Why are you like this?

I will now reveal your fates.

      Spoiler:

    Caroline has been eliminated.

    She was not the Pyromaniac.

      Spoiler:

    Parvati has been eliminated.

    She was not the Pyromaniac.

      Spoiler:

    Alex has been eliminated.

    He was not the Pyromaniac.

      Spoiler:

NO ONE IS THE WINNER OF PYROPHOBIA 3!

    Minju was the Pyromaniac.

She played an excellent first half of the game, but after the ballot economy crashed, she didn't have enough ballots or active greedy players left in the game to force another failed fire suppression through.

This was definitely the weirdest season yet, I don't know how I feel about it. I was rooting for a non-Pyromaniac ending just to prove it was possible, but this weird trainwreck is certainly distinctive. A player being inactive for the entire season only to show up at the last second to force everyone to lose is certainly not what I predicted would happen

Let me know if you want me to come up with some new ideas for a fourth season, or if you have a suggestion for something else you'd rather play (and think there's enough activity on the site to support). Thanks!

    Round 9 Voting Results:
    Caroline: 8 - Would've lost TB
    Parvati: 8 - Would've survived TB
    The Fire: 2

    Things to make note of:

    • In general, we can sort the players of the game into a few different categories. Some of the players were focused on destroying their targets with massive numbers of votes, while destroying themselves in the process; the inactive players; and the pro-fire suppression players. The pro-fire suppression players, after losing Laura in a 31-vote trainwreck that upended the game economy, recovered enough to come close to winning before the final round prevented that from happening.
    • Round 1 was a huge mess due to the site error and how close the votes were. A fatal error here was Ruby effectively transferring her five ballots to the Pyromaniac, Minju. Meanwhile, Manuel and Oberyn were the big targets, with Manuel getting eliminated while Oberyn become the new ballot count leader.
    • During Round 2, Minju decided to drop her entire inventory of votes on Oberyn; because Oberyn decided to try saving votes, he didn't have quite enough. This resulted in Minju receiving a huge new influx of ballots for the next round. Meanwhile, Dayoung and Shonee started a feud that derailed the first half of the game.
    • In Round 3, Dayoung and Shonee effectively swapped their inventories (which swelled further as the result of the runaway inflation resulting from giving people 5 ballots per round for free). However, Minju as the new ballot leader once again furthered her Pyromaniac agenda by dumping her entire inventory onto Lotta (with Ruby joining her).
    • By Round 4, Shonee and Dayoung had amassed so many ballots that they basically canceled out everyone else's actions in the game. They continued targeting each other. Dayoung fell behind in the ballot count by one compared to Shonee and was finally eliminated. Meanwhile, Ruby began enabling Minju again, while Minju sent her inventory to the pro-fire-suppression player Laura.
    • In Round 5, not only were Laura's pleas for fire suppression ignored, but she received a disastrous 31 votes from the combined efforts of Minju and Shonee. Since no ballots got redistributed as a result of the unanimous vote, the game's economy suddenly crashed, leaving only Alex's stockpile of saved ballots as a source of extra ballots. Note that Laura spent all 18 of her ballots here in a desperate bid to suppress the fire and it still wasn't enough. That's how ****ed up the game economy was by this round.
    • This showed in Round 6, where Minju attempted to continue her same strategy that had worked out the past five rounds. However, she was completely outvoted here (and even had she saved the maximum number of ballots from Round 5, it still wouldn't have been enough). Laura truly died for this cast's sins, because in her exit she ruined the Pyromaniac's plan in the process.
    • The pattern continued in Round 7, with Minju choosing to eliminate Ruby but not having nearly enough ballots to end the game. Those five-vote boots sure were suspicious, though!
    • In Round 8, several things came together. First, Minju realized that she needed to save up ballots in order to have enough to overwhelm the tower. For the first time, she cast fewer votes than normal. At the same time, the other players got suspicious and Alex threw three votes onto Minju, causing a tie. Had Minju voted for Caroline or Alex here, she would've survived. However, in the first tiebreaker, Minju and Parvati each cast zero votes against the fire. In the second tiebreaker, Minju had two saved ballots (vs. Parvati having her entire inventory discarded every single time).
    • In the final round, Parvati showed up for whatever reason and decided to cast her entire inventory for Caroline. This made it mathematically impossible for Caroline to survive the round, as there were not enough ballots remaining in the game to both suppress the fire and create a plurality for Alex or Caroline. Had Caroline and Alex colluded, while knowing Parvati's exact play, they could've theoretically sacrificed Caroline and allowed Alex to save eight votes for the final round. In that round, Alex would've had 13 ballots to Parvati's 5; but this still wouldn't have been enough for Alex to win the game. Assuming Parvati showed up to vote again and used all 5 of her ballots on Alex, Alex would've needed 17 saved ballots to win: 6 votes to eliminate Parvati and another 11 to suppress the fire. Thus, by showing up at the right time, Parvati guaranteed that she was the only possible winner, or that no one would win. As you can see, the latter came true.
    • Overall, I found this to be a fascinating season. I'm a little disappointed I didn't get to crown another winner—both the Pyromaniac and the normal players came close to winning this time. However, it certainly was an interesting result!

    Pyromaniac Randomization:

Again, please let me know by posting if there's genuine interest in another season! I enjoy hosting this but I don't want to drag it on if people are bored of the concept. So let me know if you'd like to see Pyrophobia 4, or perhaps some other game?
