It's time to vote. You have just been given 2 ballots, in addition to however many you have saved. You will receive individualized updates with the current number of ballots you have.

    Rules

For each ballot in your inventory, you have three options:

    • [1] Save It: Save it for a future round.
    • [2] Fire Suppression: Cast it against the fire to benefit the fire suppression effort.
    • [3] Player Suppression: Cast it against a player other than yourself.

Each player must respond within the allotted time (24 hours, with up to a 24-hour extension available maximum). Even if you are choosing not to spend any of your ballots, you must respond so that I know your decision.

If you fail to vote by the deadline, your ballots will be discarded.

Any ballots used improperly (to self-vote or vote for something other than the fire or another player remaining in the game) will be discarded.

    Possible Vote Outcomes

    • Unanimous Fire Suppression: A vote in which all ballots are cast again the fire will result in a highly successful fire suppression effort. The fire will decrease by one level, unless it is already at the minimum. No elimination will occur during this round.
    • Majority Fire Suppression: If at least fifty percent of ballots cast are against the fire, the fire will remain at its current level. The player with the most votes will be eliminated. Surviving players will recover ballots cast against them for use in future rounds.
    • Failed Fire Suppression: If fewer than fifty percent of ballots are cast against the fire, the fire will increase by one level. The player who receives the most votes will be eliminated. Ballots will not be recovered for use in future rounds.
    • No Fire Suppression: The doomsday scenario. If a vote takes place where no votes are cast against the fire, the fire will immediately burn down the tower and end the game. This includes the scenario where no votes are cast at all.

Let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise... well, enjoy your stay in this warm, cozy tower.

J'Tia: I'm one of the only people trying to put out this damn fire, Jeff. Can I get some help?

I see a lot of stockpiled votes and we need more people to suppress this fire for any of us to have a goddamn chance.

I put the fire out last round too. I'm tired of putting out fires. I just want to love.

OOC: Sorry to see you go, Aandres. ): You were doing pretty well early on, it seemed, but things fell apart over the last two rounds. You definitely made an impact on this game, though! Thanks so much for playing, I hope you enjoyed your time here.

Another intense vote—with weirdly similar results as the last round. You all came within one vote of an instant game over; it seems that the fire is not yet burning hot enough to motivate you to suppress it. At Level 4, the fire is looking more threatening than ever.

You were collectively able to keep the fire at bay, which is impressive given how contentious the last few votes have been. It really feels like you're getting the feel for how this game works, so I'm very interested to see what'll happen next!

More and more ballots are getting saved, and it seems like you're working together well against the fire for the moment. The question is, will it last?

It seems like your plan of being the most pro-fire-suppression contestant was successful in keeping people from targeting you, and you were able to steer the conditions of the game to gradually burn down the tower with everyone still inside. I think you did a fantastic job and I really appreciate the way that you embraced the saboteur aspect of the role.

Everyone else, thank you so much for being active players and making strategically interesting decisions. Ultimately, while they may have seemed to help you in the short term, you collectively contributed to your own demises thanks to the trap that the game mechanics led you into.

Overall, I'm very happy with how this game went in terms of the rules and activity level given the state of the site. I'd love to host it again if people are interested!

That's all for now. Congratulations again to Vashhee for a well-earned win, and I will reveal the full results of the rounds in a future post!

    Things to make note of:

    • At the beginning of the game, Aandres and RiddleMeThis were the most organized players and managed to take out a few of their targets with assistance from betinez.
    • Players started to develop their ballot usage strategies. For example, eagle2ch attempts to use most of his ballots in Round 3, but due to the tiebreaker rules, Phoenix lost the tie. Meanwhile, abstract, betinez, Chiko, and Meh focus on hoarding their ballots.
    • In Round 4, the other alliance gets organized enough to narrowly take out RiddleMeThis over abstract. Abstract here was able to hold onto a huge number of ballots.
    • Round 5 had some wild unforced errors. Most prominently, the pyromaniac was the only person to vote against the fire. If Vashhee had abstained or voted for a player instead of the fire, he would have won instantly. Another huge error was Meh missing the deadline, discarding all seven of his ballots and wasting the work that he did to save them up.
    • After this, the players have some success in voting against the fire. However, because people kept lying about how many ballots they were putting toward the fire, and people were afraid of having more votes against them, they were not able to stall the momentum.
    • In this final round, a few votes were cast against the fire (mainly by eagle2ch), and Vashhee decided to spend all his ballots in an attempt to cause the fire suppression to fail.

    Pyromaniac Randomization:

I have some ideas for new/adjusted game mechanics, but please let me know if you have any ideas for what might make this game work better. I hope you will be interested in playing again! I enjoyed spectating this a lot.
